In July 2026, The Open headed to Royal Birkdale alongside a quarter of a million visitors who flooded into the Liverpool City Region – so our first campaign for new client Liverpool ONE had to make a big impression.
With local golfing legend Tommy Fleetwood at the heart of the tournament, we wanted to show the city’s support for the Southport-born star, and what better way to tee off our first PR stunt for Liverpool ONE than by going seriously big?
We created a giant 1,000 square metre portrait of Tommy Fleetwood on the grass at Chavasse Park, right in the heart of Liverpool ONE.
How we did it
The idea was simple: create a supersized show of support for one of the region’s biggest sporting heroes, while giving visiting golf fans a reason to stop, look and share.
Working with specialist artists Sand In Your Eye, we transformed Liverpool ONE’s Chavasse Park into a giant 40m x 25m grass portrait of Tommy, using specialist pitch-marking paint. The result was a stunning 1,000 square metre portrait.
With the artwork in place, we put our PR machine into action, targeting national, regional, broadcast and golf media to make sure our tribute got the attention it deserved.
The results
The supersized PR stunt generated 65 pieces of coverage, delivering a total reach of 116 million.
It was featured in The Times and The Sunday Times, while broadcast highlights included multiple Sky Sports clips, BBC Radio 5 Live, regional BBC and ITV, alongside blanket regional coverage and golf media.
The campaign gave Liverpool ONE a major share of voice around one of the biggest sporting events to hit the region.
And the icing on the cake? Tommy Fleetwood said “Wow!! Extremely honoured guys thank you!! 🙏” and shared the story on Instagram.
