Oasis Bucket Hat Portrait PR Stunt for St David’s Cardiff

Campaign snapshot

As a footfall-driving, coverage-generating PR stunt for St David’s Cardiff ahead of the Oasis worldwide reunion tour kicking off in the city on 4th and 5th July 2025, we commissioned artist Nathan Wyburn to create a portrait of the Gallagher brothers made entirely of thousands of bucket hats to display inside the shopping centre – this was definitely (maybe) our best PR stunt to date. This is how we created the ‘Wonder Wall’.

How we did it

We commissioned artist Nathan Wyburn – famous for his unique works of art using unusual materials – to create the portrait ahead of Oasis’ tour kicking off in Wales’ capital city, with an unveiling planned for 28th June, giving Cardiff locals and visitors time to enjoy the artwork ahead of the tour dates.

Made using 3,000 black and white bucket hats mounted on wooden boards, the 20 ft x 13 ft spectacle took Nathan four days to create, and a team of six almost ten hours to install inside St David’s. During the creation, we requested timelapse footage of the build which was used as part of a content package for media and St David’s social channels.

We teed up media interest in advance with a pre-event story, securing attendance on the day from Getty Images, Press Association, BBC, and more.

Photography of the Wonder Wall was captured early and approved on-site, allowing the team to immediately issue to media and capitalise on the buzz early-doors.

Coverage is still pending at the time of writing, with additional national – and international! – broadcast opportunities lined up to coincide with the Oasis shows, and even the band’s official social media team heading to St David’s to capture their own content of the artwork.

The Wonder Wall will remain in-situ until after the Cardiff tour dates, where it’s hopeful it’ll live on as a donation piece for a local charity.

The results

With 67 pieces of coverage to date spanning regional, national, and international titles, the Wonder Wall is a Supernova success.

Visitor feedback on the day was overwhelmingly positive, with guests sharing their snaps and selfies of the Wonder Wall across social media, creating more and more awareness of the activation.

The Wonder Wall continues to generate buzz ahead of the Oasis tour dates, with more media opportunities pending. Watch this space…
