PR events can include product launches, press conferences, photo calls, brand activations, trade events, and more; experiential PR campaigns encourage consumers to interact with your brand through an experience-led event such as a pop-up event or shop, an interactive installation, a fun game or other  immersive experiences where the public interacts with your brand.

Our 6 Favourite Umpf Events and Experiential PR Campaigns

Since 2009, Umpf has been creating unforgettable, award-winning events and experiences – here’s some of our favorites:

1. PR Event of the Year: Nessa’s Grand Arcade

PR-Event-of-the-Year-Nessas-Grand-Arcade

Oh, what’s occurring? Creating buzz and driving footfall ahead of the much-anticipated Gavin & Stacey finale, we created a real-life ‘Nessa’s Slots’ inside St David’s Cardiff – which garnered praise from actor Ruth Jones herself. The campaign won ‘Best PR Event of the Year’ and a silver for ‘Health, Beauty, Retail, & Fashion Marketing Communications Campaign of the Year’ at the 2025 PR Moment Awards, and was shortlisted for ‘Best Event’ at the CIPR Excellence Awards 2025.

2. Yorkshire Day Experiential Events

Part I

To mark Yorkshire Day on 1st August 2024, we worked with gourmet popcorn-makers Joe and Seph’s to create a custom rhubarb-flavoured popcorn for Xscape Yorkshire, which is situated in the heart of the ‘rhubarb triangle’. Given away to guests as a ‘surprise and delight’ activity, the event also raised money for local charity Airedale Baby & Children’s Bank through donations.

From finding a popcorn supplier, to taste-testing, to dishing out popcorn, read about how the Umpf team made this campaign sing here.

Part II

With Umpf’s roots in Yorkshire, of course we’ve celebrated a number of Yorkshire Days through the years. For example, we worked with White Rose Shopping Centre to create the UK’s biggest bouquet of white roses as a PR stunt, unveiling the sculpture and hosting a day of events in celebration of the region. Guests were invited to make their own white rose boutonnieres and flower crowns to take away, while the mammoth bouquet itself secured two front-page picture stories. 3. Minecraft: Bringing Blocks to Life

To mark the release of A Minecraft Movie, we created a fun and immersive adventure zone for visitors at a number of shopping centres with on-site cinemas. We created and installed vibrant pixel art hopscotch trails, challenging guests to make their way across the course and share their experience for a chance to win a £200 Minecraft-themed bundle.

4. A Cardiff Love Story: Taylor Swift Experiential Event

In June 2024, to create an in-centre splash ahead of Taylor Swift’s visit to Cardiff with The Eras Tour, we planned and hosted a friendship bracelet lucky dip event, tapping directly into fan conversation and creating a sell-out success. The campaign was shortlisted for a 2025 PR Moment award in the ‘Best PR Event of the Year’ and ‘Health, Beauty, Retail, & Fashion Marketing Communications Campaign’ categories.

5. Spreading the love at Southside

To celebrate Valentine’s Day 2025 at Southside in Wandsworth, we partnered with local artist Ruki Chuki – who had been previously commissioned to create some public art – to design a collectable, limited-edition run of free Valentine’s Day cards, given away for free at the shopping centre. Generating both media coverage and footfall, the campaign encouraged locals to share the love and take home a unique piece of collectable art as a heartfelt memento to give to a loved one.

Events & Experiential PR FAQs

Why plan events as part of my PR strategy?

Creative, impactful events are designed to generate media coverage and online traction, getting people talking and getting your brand noticed. Live, immersive experiences allow you to connect with consumers on a personal level, leaving a lasting impression that complements a wider PR and marketing strategy, with well-planned executions likely to be shared and reach far beyond the number of feet through the door.

What’s the difference between PR and experiential stunts?

A traditional PR strategy will amplify your brand’s visibility and reach, highlighting key messages and USPs, while experiential activity and events create an emotional connection through real-world engagement, giving consumers a chance to truly interact with your brand and encouraging participation, loyalty, and conversation. A clever blend of both can make your brand stand head and shoulders above the rest.

How much do events and experiential PR campaigns cost?

Budgets vary depending on what you’re trying to achieve. There many factors and variables such as where it’s located, how big it is, the duration of the event or experiential campaign, then there’s a range of bought-in costs to consider such as materials, props, talent, promo staff, photographers and videographers etc.

Example events and experiential PR campaign costs

  • For something simple and straightforward expect to pay £2-3,000
  • Low-to-mid-range might start from £5,000
  • A mid-range activation could be more than £8,000
  • Thereafter, there’s no limit depending on the scale – a national event activation touring the country, would be many tens of thousand of pounds

There’s no off-the-shelf event or experiential solution but we’re able to create – and then scale – a concept to meet your KPIs and resources.
