In the blink of an eye October has been and gone, and as the long nights start to draw in, we find ourselves transitioning into the chilly embrace of winter. Join us as we rewind and look back at some of the scarily-great work we’ve been involved in over the past month…

What a haul! Shopping sustainable, pre-loved fashion at Buchanan Galleries

In October, we worked with Glaswegian fashion influencer and Buchanan Glasgow brand ambassador, ThankFifi, on hosting a pop-up event in a bid to help promote more sustainable shopping and pre-loved fashion.

The pre-loved pop-up coincided with Recycle Week and took place in front of the iconic flower wall, showcasing a collection of handpicked beloved clothing and accessories from high-street and high-end brands, all at affordable prices.

To promote this mini-campaign, we worked with ThankFifi on social content that she shared via her channels to raise awareness of the event amongst her most loyal followers, resulting in a huge organic reach of 13.3K.

We also issued a press release, with comment from ThankFifi, to the local press and achieved 10 pieces of coverage including key titles such as Glasgow Evening Times, Glasgow Live and What’s on Glasgow, amassing a total circulation of just over 13m.

Despite the weather on the day, the event was a huge success and ThankFifi kindly donated 20% of the proceeds to Buchanan Galleries’ charity partner, Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.

This October, the Umpf team were busy launching Westgate Oxford’s Black History Month activity, ‘Trailblazers’, in partnership with Black Oxford: Untold Stories, celebrating black scholars, history and heritage.

Throughout the month, the centre ran free workshops and events to promote the contributions of black scholars and individuals who have impacted society whilst encouraging others to take their lead.

Umpf led media outreach, and secured 12 pieces of coverage with a combined reach of over 1 million including The Voice, Britain’s only national Black newspaper. The Umpf-ers also facilitated interviews with Jack FM and That’s Oxford TV.

Working together with the Landsec Marketing Team, Umpf also crafted the creative direction for the Westgate Oxford Trailblazers events programme to raise awareness of Black History Month. We produced a range of engaging visuals for different digital platforms like social media, centre website, and digital screens. In addition, we designed an email invite to promote the event programme along with in-centre print, such as posters and welcome boards. This multi-channelled approach helped ensure a cohesive narrative and allowed us to deliver a consistent message across all channels to improve awareness of Black History Month.

Gamers, start your engines!

Pudsey Bear paid a visit to St David’s Cardiff and Trinity Leeds in October, offering gamers a chance to compete on live television.
The Children in Need challenge invited sim racing drivers to set their best lap time on a virtual Silverstone circuit on EA Sports’ F1 23 game, all while being cheered on by the iconic Pudsey Bear.

The Children in Need Sim Rig Tour visited locations across the UK, hunting for the nation’s fastest sim racers. The fastest 50 drivers went into a ballot with two winners selected to race on the live Children in Need show on November 10. Participants were also able to make a donation to BBC Children in Need when taking part, helping benefit young lives across the UK.

The team supported media outreach ahead of the event at each shopping centre, and coverage was secured in a number of titles, including broadcast pieces such as BBC Look North, BBC Radio Leeds, and BBC Radio Wales.

A busy month for new biz

It’s been a busy month for new clients and new business!

We kicked off with two new clients in October – watch this space – and we had a number of new business pitches, including opportunities for three international brands.

Every one of these opportunities and new client wins have been direct approaches to Umpf. It’s not a stat we often talk about publicly, but somewhere in the region of 90% of our turnover is derived from clients who approached us direct – a great endorsement for the agency and the quality of our work.

Some well-deserved down time at Last Thursday Club

Following a full team debrief at October’s Last Thursday Club, team Umpf hit the streets of Leeds to blow off some steam.

The team headed out with a pit stop at Meatliquor for some seriously good grub and well deserved beverages, and Adrian was our official last-man-standing at the end of the night!
