PR and Social Media Diary: June
- social media
In this month’s PR and social media diary, read why June was a royally successful month. You can also catch up on May’s PR and social media diary.
In June we welcomed Junior Account Executive Natasha Graham who is joining us for three months as part of her year in industry before heading back to the University of Central Lancashire in October. As well as her stellar work across some of our busy social media and PR accounts, Natasha’s love of Morrissey and ability to get up at 5:00am for a hair appointment, following a (very) heavy night out has meant she has fit right in from day one.
A regal day of events for the Women’s Institute
On June 4th our client the National Federation of Women’s Institutes held its Centenary Annual Meeting at the Royal Albert Hall. Her Majesty The Queen, HRH The Princess Royal and HRH The Countess of Wessex were amongst distinguished guests who gathered to celebrate 100 years of the WI. Team Umpf was on hand to help look after attending media reporting on the day including handling crews from BBC, ITV and assisting journalists from The Guardian, Daily Mail and Press Association. The event was covered across British media. As you can see from the picture above, we were within courtseying distance of The Queen.
Promoting tomorrow’s top entrepreneurs
Closer to home, Umpf managed media relations around a brilliant event for client ICAEW. The Coaching for Investment Readiness event saw four young entrepreneurs – a mixture of students and recent graduates from Yorkshire universities – competing for investment in front of a panel of some of the region’s top business advisors. We ensured we captured great images of the four rising stars and pitched the story to key business writers across the region securing more than 10 pieces of coverage so far.
Taking the CIM Northern Conference by storm
Our very own Amy Byard spoke at the CIM Northern Conference on 24th June. She was asked to run a workshop about using content marketing to generate leads, following the rip-roaring success of our Sport Social Media Index. Following the workshop, the team attended the awards dinner where our Dog Selfie Mirror was shortlisted for no less than three gongs.
Whilst were on the subject of awards, the team also faced a mamoth task of writing up nine separate CIPR entries for the forthcoming PRide awards – but more on that next month…
Celebrating the Best of Britannia
We also attended Best of Britannia London with client, the Made in Britain Campaign. The event aimed to showcase British brands to buyers, media and consumers. We were tasked with launching the Campaign’s new initiative to recruit 1,000 manufacturers to trade media. Coverage is pouring in from titles across home, fashion, footwear and specialist industrial titles.
Competitive cooking / eating in the Umpf office was taken up a notch when we held a ‘food from where you are from’ day (catchy, eh?). Notable entries were Melton Mowbury pork pies (from the East Midlands, apparently), biscuits, applesauce and sweet tea from the US Deep South, tiramisu from Italy and cheese from all corners of the globe.
Welcomes, birthdays and summer fun
To celebrate the start of summer we headed into town to officially welcome Natasha (and belatedly celebrate Nathan’s birthday). Carrying on the international foodie theme we headed to Bilbao for some amazing tapas before heading up to Leeds’ highest watering hole, the Sky Lounge.
