MUSIC: THE SOCIAL MEDIA STAR
Developments in social media have been changing the way that we listen to music for a number of years now, and this summer the Official Charts Company official began to include video streaming figures in its reporting.
A new study released this week revealed that nine out of ten social media users engage with a music-related activity while using an app. The study was conducted via a survey of 800 people who use either Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat at least once a month, with the majority of those engaging daily.
The study also showed that artists and musicians topped the list among the most-followed influencers and celebrities over reality TV stars and actors/actresses. It claimed that this was because users have a sustained interest in the careers of their favourite artists and want updates on their music projects, live tours, and lifestyles.
The closing statement of the study is that music is a primary driver of our interactions with social media with 63% of users said that they discover new artists on social, and nearly 60% are visiting streaming services to listen to and share music after they have seen an update, tweet or post.
#WHERESYOURHEADAT
This week, Love Island stars have been showing their support for the Where’s Your Head At? campaign, an initiative aiming to improve the mental health of the nation by ensuring that all employers look after the wellbeing of their workforce by introducing a mental health first aider.

More recently, some celebrities have also teamed up with the campaign in order to show their support.

NOT YOUR EVERYDAY DATING APP
To add to its ever-growing list of apps and features, Facebook is launching Facebook Dating, which is currently in the testing stages.
Should the app make it past the initial testing and be launched to the public, one of the distinguishing features would make your dating profile available to view by people attending the same event as you, with the hopes of generating more offline connections.
In an announcement, Mark Zuckerberg said, “This is going to be for building real, long-term relationships – not just for hook-ups”.
Who knew MZ was such a softy?
#INTERNATIONALCATDAY
And finally, we need to give a mention to Fred, our very own Juliette’s cat, who has officially been voted the 3rd cutest cat in Leeds. That’s pawsome! (I’m so sorry)
