The Sport Social Media Index is an annual league table of all 146 British professional football, rugby and cricket teams, ranked according to the best use of social media by their official club channels. Launched in 2013, the annual Index is compiled by measuring the social media performance of each team based, not just on an algorithm, but also qualitative analysis by a panel of three judges from Umpf and Sports Social Media Index partner, William Hill.
The most important reason for the re-design of the Sports Social Media Index website was to make it responsive. Taking a ‘mobile first’ approach, we kept the design of the website simple and made sure usability was the main focus. We also added in an animated walk-through to help explain the methodology behind how the individual team’s scores are calculated.

The website includes a case-study section that highlights some of the stand-out performers. We also designed unique icons to send out to the winners and runners-up from each of the individual leagues as well as the team that finished top in the overall league and the team that finished second. The icons included the updated Sports Social Media Index logo design along with the sport and league the icon is awarded for.
